Anybody that has driven to the Surfside Beach/Freeport areas has heard of Buc-ees, mainly because
of their huge billboards with humerous things written on them.
All of these billboards feature a big, smiling beaver (the Buc-ees logo) with huge letters next
to it, proclaiming that Buc-ees has “Fabulous Bathrooms”, among other things. On our first trip to Surfside,
after passing at least six stores, we finally stopeed in one to grab some ice. Before we entered the store, we
were having a lighthearted argument over what the animal on all the signs actually was. Was it a chipmunk? Squirrel? A combination
of the two? That’s when we saw a shirt in the store that proclaimed, “It’s a beaver!”
Buc-ees is definitely not your typical gas station. It’s a mecca for tired travelers,
those in need of gas, ice, drinks, or beach goers. Inside, you can of course get the typical gas-station-convenience-store
coffee and bag of chips. However, you can also choose from an array of fresh produce, homemade items (jams, etc), jerkies,
beach items - swim suits, boogie and body boards, t-shirts, flip flops, and fishing gear (rods, reels, line, lures, and bait).
Buc-ee's is more than a convienence store, it's a convienence store on steroids, or even better
yet, a Monster Store!
When you are at Surfside, make sure and get plenty of ice at Buc-ee's - it's only $0.99 for
a 20 pound bag!
